Should I use a base coat/top coat when I paint my nails?

I find a base coat of a nail strengthener is a good start. It helps the colored coat slide on smoother and stops it staining your nails. The top coat helps to stop the color from chipping off and giving you a high shine.

It's worth it, but not essential if you're using quality products.

All the best.

Always base coat. It helps prevent damage to your nails because the nail polish doesn't allow the nail to breathe.

It can prevent your nail from becoming brittle, and turning yellow or discoloured (from nail polish stains).

Top coat can keep you nailpolish on for longer, reduce chipping, and add shine!Should I use a base coat/top coat when I paint my nails?
id suggest doing so- if u do the nail polish will stay on longer- howevr some brands arent all that great and dont work so well a good brand that id suggest is OPI, ur local nails salon, beauty store, or wal-mart shoud hav it!! :)
i usually use a top coat but not a base coat because i use 2 coats of nail polish and if you have that mant layers it's too thick and peels off
nail polish lasts longer and your nails dont get brittle and yellow
yeah, i always do. Your nail polish won't chip as easily and it will help it to last longer.

  • When you've painted your nails, do you need to apply a top coat?

    You don't ';need'; to but you can, I always apply a shining/wet look top coat.When you've painted your nails, do you need to apply a top coat?
    It's a good idea. You should ideally put a base coat on too, which can just be a clear nail polish. Once you've applied your colour, wait for it to dry completely and apply a clear nail polish or dedicated top coat polish to seal in the colour, this makes it last longer, become more chip-resistant and gives it a nice shine.When you've painted your nails, do you need to apply a top coat?
    You dont realy need too. But it works better. If you aplly a top coat on it then it will last longer. When you wet youre finger it wont come off that easily. It looks better when you do have the coat on. But you still will look good without it. Heres a picture of how you will look with it and not with it-

    Hope this worked.
    its really up to you. If your nail polish color looks kind of dull, and not

    as shiny as you'd like it to be then you should, and even if it is shiny, you can make it even shinier by applying a top coat, and as a bonus it acts as a protector for you polish so it will last longer.
    You dont have to, but i would because it stops the polish from chipping as easily.

    I normally put a basecoat, then 2 coats of nail varnish, and then a top coat :).

    xx
    You don't have to.

    But it looks best if you paint your nails with the color, and then put a clear coat on top. It adds some shine, and makes the polish hold up a lot better!

    I hope I helped,

    ~Elaina (:
    I would and I would also apply a coat before putting the polish on because if you paint your nails a lot your nails can eventually turn a yellow color.:/
    not really, top coat is generally used to keep ur nail polish from chipping, makes ur nail shiny, and keeps ur manicure lasting 4 a really long time. its up to you! :D
    I don't, and my nails look fine but when I apply a clear top coat it does last longer and give better shine x it depends on time x
    I usually only apply a top coat when I do a design or something. But if u want 2 it won't hurt anything. :)
    Sweetie, i think 褔ou should. You don't have to but its best if 褔ou to a top coat. Its reall褔 up to 褔ou. xoxo
    I do 2 coats of the color and then 1 clear top coat.

    They last longer and look better (shinier).
    No and Yes, No You dont HAVE to. But yes, it helps the paint stay on longer. Hope this helps! oxoxox
    You don't need to, but it will last longer if you do, and won't chip as easily.
    you can if u want it makes your nails pretty and shiney
    i usually apply to coats of the color then i apply a clear top coat

    A nail is coated with a 0.022 cm thick layer of zinc. The surface area of the nail is 9.14 cm2. The density of zinc is 7.13 g/cm3. How many zinc atoms are used in the coating?A nail is coated with a 0.022 cm thick layer of zinc. The surface area of the nail is 9.14 cm2. The density of?
    Volume = 0.022 cm x 9.14 cm^2 = 0.201 cm^3

    mass = density x volume = 7.13 g/cm^3 x 0.201 cm^3 = 1.43 g

    Moles Zn = 1.43 g / 65.39 g/mol= 0.0219

    Atoms = 0.0219 mol x 6.02 x 10^23 = 1.32 x 10^22

    How you tell if a nail is zinc-coated (galvanized)?

    I have a bunch of nails here with no packaging and I need a glavanized one for a science experiment that I'm doing..How you tell if a nail is zinc-coated (galvanized)?
    Any galvanized steel item has a low gloss silvery-gray/white color often displaying crystals or facets that form when the zinc solidifies. The surface will feel rough rather than smooth like an uncoated steel nail.How you tell if a nail is zinc-coated (galvanized)?
    simple if the rusting has occured then only coating is done
    Get some hydrochloric (muriatic) acid and dip the nail in it. If it starts to bubble, then it means the zinc must have reacted with the acid to release hydrogen.

    Does top coat discolor your nails?

    i know nail polish does. but does top coat only discolor them?Does top coat discolor your nails?
    well i think sooo cuz wen i put on nail polish n then put on top coat...the color gets lighter n some of it fades away....soo my guess is yes it does discolor them...though still not sure...Does top coat discolor your nails?
    not at all. just adds shine.
    It really depends on the topcoat. If you buy like a cheap bad brand or something like that it might. But if you buy a good one then it just makes them really pretty and shiny!
    nope. makes it shiney and makes it last longer.
    no. just makes it last-less chipping.
    No it doesn't but that's why you use a base coat. :\
