How you tell if a nail is zinc-coated (galvanized)?

I have a bunch of nails here with no packaging and I need a glavanized one for a science experiment that I'm doing..How you tell if a nail is zinc-coated (galvanized)?
Any galvanized steel item has a low gloss silvery-gray/white color often displaying crystals or facets that form when the zinc solidifies. The surface will feel rough rather than smooth like an uncoated steel nail. How you tell if a nail is zinc-coated (galvanized)?
simple if the rusting has occured then only coating is done
Get some hydrochloric (muriatic) acid and dip the nail in it. If it starts to bubble, then it means the zinc must have reacted with the acid to release hydrogen.
