Yes they differ from regular nail polish. Base coats smooth the nail, help polish stick %26amp; prevent your nail from being stained by the polish. Top coats seal the polish (to prevent chips) and add shine, they generally make the polish last longer %26amp; look nicer ! Almost every brand that makes color polish makes a base and top coat.
When you want to buy top %26amp; base coats, ask for just that...seperate never a 2in1.
